Skyline
(from Town Lake)
Acrylic
on Canvas
36" x 36" x 2.5" deep gallery-wrap
canvas
with image continuing onto edges
This painting -- extrapolated from a simple line drawing created while standing
on the south shore of Town Lake -- reduces the Austin skyline to its bare
minimum. The characteristics of actual Austin landmarks can be detected
in the simplified forms, such as the Congress Avenue bridge and the fireman's
memorial tower. The painting reflects Austin's wonderful vibrance on
a beautiful, blue-sky summer day, rendered with a childlike awe.
The line art for Skyline was donated to the 2001 Austin Fine Arts Festival
in the form of a banner for children to fill with color. The children's
colorful interpretation will eventually dress the fence line of the new Austin
Museum of Art construction site. This piece was exhibited in the Austin
Children's Museum Artistic EnCounters exhibition in the summer of 2001.
