Miró Joue la Guitare

Miró Joue la Guitare (Miró Plays Guitar)

11" x 17" Acrylic on Gallery-Wrap Canvas

In September 2004, I was fortunate to visit the Phillips Collection museum in Washington, D.C., on opening day of the Calder/Miró exhibition.  It turned out to be a moving and inspiring experience for me.  I was quite taken by Miró's inventiveness and the way he created interesting grounds on which to float his organic forms.  When I returned to my studio, I couldn't resist trying my hand at a Miró-style background.  As the painting developed, I borrowed a couple of his motifs (the asterisk forms and the head form) to finish the piece.  I rather like the way it turned out.
