33 " x 15"
Painted in October 2004, during a two-month stay in Shenandoah National
Park. This painting depicts the woods as seen from the window
of my make-shift studio in the ranger chalet, in fact the working
title of the piece was From My Window. The leaf
clusters are made of pieces cut from a vintage edition of Bach's
Brandenburg Concerto, tinted with thin acrylic washes and collaged
onto the canvas.
As I was working on studies for this piece, I stumbled across the
marvelous landscapes of Chicago's Leslie
Baum on the internet. I had already set my mind on floating
forms on an ethereal background, so I was quite surprised to discover
her work...it's as if Fate spoke to me, reaffirming my direction.
