Despite the title -- a texafication of the Spanish word accordeonista -- Curtis' influences for this piece were not entirely Latin.  The Bayou Swamis, a Zydeco band from Humboldt County, California, sparked his renewed interest in accordion music when he saw them perform at the Arcata Farmer's Market.
